What's New: Social Work: Compassion + Action

March is National Social Work Month! It takes a special kind of person to commit to this rich and varied field that impacts every sector of society – its unifying ethos being of service, being of help. In honor of all the incredible social workers who have contributed to our agency, past, present and future, we want to extend a heartfelt Thank You.

With roots that go all the way back to 1600s Britain, the field of Social Work began to coalesce into a formal and systematic institution in the mid-19th century during the Industrial Revolution. As populations in urban centers grew exponentially, the concentration of folks struggling with poverty, mental health symptoms, and inhumane living and working conditions burgeoned. Many who witnessed these harmful conditions and their impacts on the people living in them saw not only an opportunity but a moral imperative to be of service, laying the framework for what would become the profession as we know it today.

Social workers play vital roles in clinics and hospitals, in schools and courts, in city, county, state, and national agencies, and so much more. Social workers have helped shape where we are today and have always kept an eye on the greater picture of where is the need? Who is impacted by what factors and how? And even more importantly: what is needed to fix, heal, and fill in the gaps?

They support, advocate for, and walk alongside people in their most vulnerable states, many of whom have just gone through the worst moments of their lives. They stand up for, hold space for, and continuously bring to the forefront the needs of most unprotected, and  the dedication, commitment, and empathy required to walk this path are remarkable. The theme for National Social Work Month 2025 is Social Work: Compassion + Action. We hope you take some time to thank a social worker in your life this month and stop to reflect on how you yourself are bringing more compassionate action to the world around you. Thank you for being a FrontLiner!
