Director of Clinical Strategy

Maureen Sweeney, CNP serves as the Director of Clinical Strategy for FrontLine’s integrated care clinic, which is the leading provider of psychiatric care in Cuyahoga County for those who have mental illness and a history of homelessness. Maureen is an experienced healthcare administrator in Community Psychiatry who served as FrontLine’s Associate Medical Director from 2015-2021. In her 7+ years at FrontLine, Maureen has improved clinical services to address gaps in healthcare across complex systems.

As the agency’s expert on integrated care, Maureen leads efforts to decrease morbidity and mortality rates in those living with severe mental illness and improve their quality of life. Under Maureen’s leadership, FrontLine has developed an outreach-based, integrated care model to provide vulnerable populations with more equitable access to healthcare. Maureen champions the philosophy that a provider’s relationship with a patient is the most powerful agent of change.

Maureen’s efforts to support vulnerable populations have been recognized at the national level. In 2018, Maureen was named a “Superhero Nurse” by Oprah Magazine for her work on Ohio HB302, which advocated for pregnant minors to consent to pain management during delivery. More recently, Maureen worked with two Ohio State Senators to pass a 2021 Ohio law to prohibit the shackling of pregnant women who are incarcerated.

Since 2013, Maureen has served on the Senior Clinical Faculty at the Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine and as a mentor for nurse practitioners through their first year of practice. She is dedicated to nurturing interdisciplinary leaders in community psychiatry. She is also a fierce advocate for resilience and mental health among health care practitioners.

In 2013, Maureen was among the first Nurse Practitioners to complete a medical fellowship in Community Psychiatry at Case Western Reserve University, School of Medicine (CWRU-SOM). She holds a Master’s of Science in Family Systems Psychiatric Nursing and a Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing, both from the Frances Payne Bolton School of Nursing at Case Western Reserve University.
