John's Story
The PATH team received a call from a church that provides meals to the homeless. The caller informed the team of a man named John who may benefit from our services. John was living in an old, abandoned trailer for six years and refused any services. Over the past several years, John had been offered help from several outreach workers from different programs but always refused it.
FrontLine’s PATH team began reaching out to John on a consistent basis from January to June. They were able to build a strong trusting relationship with John while addressing his basic needs by bringing out water, food and hygiene items. Due to the consistent outreach efforts, John decided to accept PATH services, including meeting with a psychiatrist. It was discovered that John was a military veteran who fought in the Gulf War, but he was not eligible for Veteran services. He had a history of PTSD and Alcohol Dependency. The PATH team was able assist John in getting psychiatric medication and helped him move into Permanent Supportive Housing. John is currently enjoying his new apartment and is receiving the support he needs to stay housed and stabilize his life.
